Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan studi interpretatif analitik deskriptif yang bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan tindakan rasisme yang terjadi di komunitas orang kulit hitam. Peniliti menganalisis data yang berasal dialog dan narasi dalam novel “The Hate U Give” yang ditulis oleh Angie Thomas. Penilitian ini menggunakan teori milik Schaefer (2015), penelitian dari Dr. Kennedy (2013) mengenai kejadian rasis, dan teori pendukung lain untuk menganalisa novel ini. Ditemukan beberapa tindakan rasisme yang tergambar dalam novel seperti rasisme yg terjadi sehari- hari, kekerasan fisik, rasisme verbal, diskriminasi, segregasi, prasangka, dan stereotip. Thomas menggambarkan tindakan rasisme dalam novelnya untuk menekankan bahwa semua bentuk rasisme dan ketidakadilan sama pentingnya untuk diperhatikan karena tindakan ini dapat terjadi dimana saja dan kapan saja. ********** This research is a descriptive-analytical interpretive study that aims to reveal acts of racism that occur in the black community. The researcher analyzed data from dialogue and narration in the novel “The Hate U Give” written by Angie Thomas. This study uses Schaefer's (2015) theory, Dr. Kennedy’s study (2013) about racist accidents, and other supporting theories to analyze this novel. There are several acts of racism depicted in the novel, such as everyday racism, physical violence, verbal racism, discrimination, segregation, prejudice, and stereotypes. Thomas describes acts of racism in his novels to emphasize that all forms of racism and injustice are equally important to be noticed because these actions can occur anywhere and anytime.
