Abstract
This research aimed to investigate the influence of perceived organizational support (POS) on the burnout suffered by nurses who were in charge of looking after COVID-19 patients in Jabodetabek. Additionally, this research also aimed to understand the role of psychological capital (PsyCap) in mediating the influence of POS on nurses’ burnout. This study employed the Maslach Burnout Inventory for Human Service Survey (MBI-HSS) instrument to measure the burnout variable. The POS was measured using the Survey of Perceived Organizational Support Short Version (SPOS) while the PsyCap was measured using the Psychological Capital Questionnaire-12 (PCQ-12). The data were collected using the purposive sampling technique. Up to 201 COVID-19 nurses from Jabodetabek were involved as research subjects. The data were analyzed using the simple regression analysis and sobel test analysis to testify the hypotheses. Based on the trial on the main hypothesis, this research found that PsyCap did not mediate the influence of POS on COVID-19 nurses' burnout. This result was obtained by looking at the value of the t-count in comparison with the value of the t-table (t-count 1.9 < t-table 1.97). Other findings showed that POS had a positive influence on PsyCap, with the value of p < 0.05 and β = 0.366. Furthermore, PsyCap was testified to have negative influence on nurses' burnout, with the value of p < 0.05 and β = -1.007. Lastly, this research managed to testify to the hypothesis that POS had direct negative influence on burnout compared to PsyCap based on the value of p < 0.05 and β = -1.240.
