Abstract

This research aims to identify relationship between positive emotions and academic engagement in students who take distance education. This research uses quantitative research method. The instrument uses in this study is the Positive emotions Modified Differential Emotions Scale (mDES) developed by Fredrickson (2003). This instrument is used to measure positive emotions, which was later adapted by the researcher. The next instrument uses in this research is the student version of the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9) which was developed by Scahufeli, et.al (2006). This instrument is used to measure academic engagement, which was later adapted by the researcher. The sample used in this study amounted to 300, there were outliers with a total of 2 respondents. Therefore, the data tested was only 298 respondents. The method of data analysis in this study to test the hypothesis using the Pearson correlations technique. The results of the analysis showed that there is a relationship between positive emotions and academic engagement in students who take distance education with a P-value <0.05.
