Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effect of job insecurity on psychological well-being in early childhood education teachers during the Covid-19 pandemic. Psychological well-being of teachers is very important because it can affect the welfare of the children they teach. Psychological well-being is the need for positive functioning of the individual obtained from the fulfillment of basic needs, spirituality, self-acceptance, and also positive relationships with others with the aim of maintaining harmony between environmental factors and individual needs. Job insecurity is a condition experienced by individuals related to their work environment (covering job continuity, income, career growth, etc.) which causes anxiety and concern due to unclear regulations and uncertainty of continuation in their work. This study used a cross-sectional survey method with accidental sampling. The measuring instrument used in this study is the Indonesian Wellbeing Scale developed by Maulana, Khawaja, & Obst (2019) with dimensions of spirituality, positive relationships, basic needs, self-acceptance and the results of the adoption of Job Insecurity Questionnaire by Zakaria, Hasanati, and Shohib from the original instrument used developed by De Witte (2000) with two dimensions, namely cognitive and affective dimensions. The number of respondents in this study were 264 early childhood education teacher respondents from Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Depok, and Bekasi areas. The results of the regression analysis showed F Table = 3.89; F Count=173.932; p<0.05 (Significant). This means that the value of F count> F table which means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It can be concluded that there is a significant negative effect of 39.9% of job insecurity on psychological well-being of PAUD teachers during the covid-19 pandemic. This means that when their perceptions of helplessness and feelings of worry about work tend to be low, their ability to meet their spiritual, financial, social relationships, and early childhood education teachers' self-acceptance tends to be high.
