Abstract

Berbicara sebagai suatu keterampilan adalah penguasaan penggunaan kosakata, tata bahasa, pengucapan, dan kelancaran penyampaian makna secara lisan sehingga tercapai pemahaman dalam pembicaraan. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara dengan dosen, tes lisan di awal dan praobservasi, diketahui bahawa mahasiswa di Prodi Sastra Inggris Universitas Pamulang Tangsel tidak menguasai penggunaan aspek bahasa tersebut dalam berbicara. Hal ini menjadi pemicu bagi penulis untuk melakukan penelitian tindakan di universitas ini. Penelitian ini bertujuan meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara Bahasa Inggris mahasiswa dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran berbasis tugas. Metodologi penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan Reil dengan tahapan: mempelajari dan merencanakan, melaksanakan tindakan, mengumpulkan dan menganalisa, serta merefleksikan (Reil dalam Mertler, 2009). Partisipan penelitian ini adalah lima belas orang mahasiswa semester tiga tahun ajaran 2018-2019. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan (1) praobservasi, (2) wawancara dosen, (3) tes awal, (4) observasi pada setiap siklus tindakan oleh kolaborator menggunakan jurnal kolaborator, (5) pencatatan kegiatan pembelajaran oleh peneliti, (6) rekaman video dan dokumentasi foto, (7) serta tes lisan di setiap akhir siklus 1,2, dan 3. Analisis data kualitatif dilakukan dengan menggunakan data praobservasi, wawancara dosen, observasi dan catatan harian pengajar, sedangkan analisis data kuantitatif dari hasil tes awal dan tes di setiap akhir siklus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris mahasiswa pada aspek tata bahasa, kosakata, pengucapan, pemahaman dan kelancaran dapat ditingkatkan dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran berbasis tugas melalui penelitian tindakan. Pelaksanaan prose penelitian tindakan memfasilitasi pengajar sekaligus sebagai peneliti melakukan refleksi guna membuat keputusan berupa solusi pada pembelajaran. Kata kunci: Keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggris, model pembelajaran berbasis tugas, penelitian tindakan kelas. Speaking is a skill requiring mastery of vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and fluency, so that students can convey the proper meaning and those involved in the conversation can understand messages properly. Unfortunately, based on the results of interviews with lecturers, oral tests at the beginning, and pre-observation, it shows that the students of English Literature Language Program at Pamulang University did not master the use of the aspects of language in speaking. It triggered the writer to do an action research about speaking skills at this university. This research aims to improve the students speaking skills in English class by applying Task Based Learning Model. Research methodology used was Reil Action Research, in which the steps include: learning and planning, taking action, collecting information and analysis, and reflection (Reil in Melter, 2009). The participants of the research were 15 students from third semester of academic year 2018-2019. Technique of gathering data in this research comprises (1) pre-observation, (2) interviewing lecturers, (3) pre-test, (4) observation in each cycle by a collaborator, (5) writing journal of learning activities by the researcher, (6) video recording and photo documentation, (7) oral test at the end of each cycle from 3 cycles completed. The researcher analyzed qualitative data through pre-observation, interview to lecturer, and classroom observation, as well as teaching journal of classroom activities. To analyze quantitative data, the researcher used pre-test and test results from each cycle. The findings indicate that the action research by implementing Task Based Learning Model can increase students’ speaking skills in English based on the aspects of grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, comprehension, and fluency. The action research process facilitates the teacher as a researcher to reflect in order to make a decision for the solution in learning.
