Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan referensi sebagai bagian dari piranti kohesi yang digunakan oleh mahasiswa di dalam wacana lisan akademik. Penelitian ini menggunakan analisis isi sebagai metode untuk mengidentifikasi penggunaan referensi dalam aktifitas wacana mahasiswa. Data penelitian berupa ujaran lisan yang diambil dari dua puluh presentasi: 10 presentasi sidang skripsi dan 10 presentasi dari kelas Academic Presentation. Data-data berikut kemudian dianalisa menggunakan teori kohesi yang dibuat M.A.K. Halliday and Ruqaiya dan teori jalinan antara referensi dan tekstur yang dikembangkan Suzanne Eggins. Dalam temuan yang diteliti dari 1104 kalimat menunjukan ada 731 tipe referensi yang dikategorikan menjadi tiga tipe referensi dengan penggunaan tertinggi pada referensi persona dengan 476 atau 65% dari semua tipe referensi, dan 2200 tipe jalinan referensi digolongkan menjadi lima tipe jalinan referensi dengan terbanyak ada pada referensi anafora berjumlah 1841 atau 91% dari keseluruhan jalinan referensi. Di samping itu, temuan menunjukkan 19 dari 20 presentasi menggunakan dengan tepat kesesuaian hubungan antara referensi mayor dan judul presentasi. This study aimed at finding out reference as part of cohesive devices used by students in their academic spoken discourse. The study applied content analysis as a method to identify the references used in the students’ spoken activity. The data of this study are spoken words which taken from twenty presentations: 10 thesis presentations and 10 presentations from Academic Presentation class. These data are analyzed using cohesion theory proposed by M.A.K. Halliday and Ruqaiya and Relation between reference and Texture theory developed by Suzanne Eggins. The findings show from 1104 sentences dissected, there are 731 references categorized into three reference types with the highest frequency on personal reference with 476 or 65% from all reference types, and 2200 references sorted into five reference relation types with the biggest on anaphoric reference 1841 or 91% from all reference relations. Besides, the finding show 19 out of 20 presentations are considered appropriate in term of relevancy between major references and the title of presentation.
