Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi program ekstrakurikuler Bahasa Inggris yang diadakan di SMK Dinamika Pembangunan 1&2 Jakarta dimana program ini menjadi wadah bagi para siswa dari berbagai jurusan di sekolah kejuruan dapat memenuhi kompetensi mereka dalam hal kemampuan berbahasa Inggris dan membantu mereka mampu menghadapi pasar kerja. Penelitian ini menganalisis kegiatan pada program yang dilaksanakan, topik dan materi yang digunakan selama program berlangsung serta tehnik pengajaran yang diterapkan di ekstrakurikuler Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunan studi kasus sebagai metode penelitiannya. Data penelitian dikumpulkan melalui observasi kelas dan analisis dokumen, sementara sumber datanya adalah seorang guru Bahasa Inggris yang bertanggung jawab menangani ekstrakurikuler English Club di SMK Dinamika Pembangunan 1&2 Jakarta. Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa 1) kegiatan yang para siswa lakukan di dalam program ekstrakurikuler Bahasa Inggris bervariasi. Mereka melakukan main peran, permainan kosa kata, berolahraga, pidato, debat, bercerita, presentasi, bernyanyi, kegiatan luar kelas dan berdiskusi. Beberapa kegiatan bermanfaat bagi para siswa untuk melatih kemampuan mereka di tempat kerja nantinya, sementara kegiatan lainnya bertujuan untuk mempersiapkan siswa untuk mengikuti perlombaan, 2) topik yang digunakan selama program antara lain menangani telepon, peningkatan diri, profesi, liburan, menggambarkan proses, dan berbicara tentang idola, sementara materi yang digunakan diambil dari teks bacaan, buku permainan, majalah Bahasa Inggris, lagu, lembar kerja, cerita rakyat dari internet dan video, dan 3) tehnik pengajaran yang dilaksanakan pada program ekstrakurikuler Bahasa Inggris yaitu teknik komunikatif, jawaban para siswa bersifat terbuka dan guru kurang memiliki control sehingga hal ini membuat para siswa berinteksi lebih bebas dan spontan. This present study aimed at investigating the English extracurricular program carried out at SMK Dinamika Pembangunan 1&2 Jakarta which is in this program, became a place for students from any majors in vocational school to fulfill their competence in English skills and to help them be able to face the job market. This study analyzed the activities of the program held, the topics and material used during the program and teaching techniques conducted in English extracurricular program. This was a qualitative research with a case study as the method of the study. The data in this study were collected through classroom observation and document analysis, while the data sources were an English teacher who was responsible to handle English Club extracurricular at SMK Dinamika Pembangunan 1&2 Jakarta. The finding of the study showed that 1) the activities that students did in English extracurricular program were varied. They did role play, game on vocabulary, do sport, speech, debate, story telling, presentation, singing, outing class and discussion. Some of them were beneficial for students to practice their skills in the work place later, while other activities were aimed to prepare the students for joining competitions, 2) the topics used during the program were handling telephone, self-development, profession, holiday, describing process, and telling about idol, while the materials used were a textbook, games book, English magazine, songs, a set of worksheet, folk tales taken from internet and video, and 3) teaching techniques conducted in English extracurricular program was in communicative technique, the students’ answers had an open-ended nature in which the teacher had less control, so it made the students interacted in a freer and spontaneous form.
