Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi bahasa guru yang berfungsi untuk mengelola siswa Sekolah Dasar dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Bahasa guru memiliki peranan penting dalam pengembangan pengetahuan, sikap, dan keterampilan. Salah satu fungsi bahasa guru dalam kelas adalah untuk mengelola siswa dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian difokuskan pada ujaran guru dan siswa yang muncul selama pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Ujaran direkam dan ditranskripsikan, Selanjutnya dianalisis dengan menggunakan Initiation�Response-Follow Up untuk menghitung frekuensi giliran bicara dan memilahkan fungsi pedagogis dari ujaran. Berdasarkan 5 transkrip interaksi yang dianalisis terdapat 1701 ujaran guru, 161 diantaranya berfungsi untuk mengelola siswa. Ujaran yang berfungsi untuk mengelola siswa, 54 berfungsi untuk mendapatkan perhatian siswa, 37 berfungsi untuk mengontrol ucapan siswa, 3 berfungsi untuk mengkonfirmasi kepahaman, 1 untuk memperbaiki bahasa siswa, 9 berfungsi untuk menspesifikasikan topik, 6 berfungsi untuk mengontrol waktu, 48 berfungsi untuk mengontrol perilaku siswa yang tidak sesuai, dan 3 berfungsi untuk meminta siswa untuk bekerja secara kelompok. Temuan ini menggambarkan bahwa peran guru untuk mengelola siswa pada pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris lebih dominan untuk pengembangan sikap saja. ***** This study was aimed at identifying the teachers’ language to manage primary school students in English learning. Teachers’ language had an important role in the development of knowledge, attitudes, and skills. One of the functions of language in the classroom is teachers’ language to manage students in learning English. The study focused on the teachers and students’ utterances appeared during English learning. The utterances were recorded and transcribed, then analyzed using the Initiation - Response - Follow-up to calculate the frequency of the speech turn and divide the pedagogical function. Based on 5 analyzed transcriptions of classroom interaction there are 1701 teachers’ utterances, 161 of them are functioned to manage students. The utterances that functioned to manage students, 54 functioned to attract students’ attention, 37 functioned to control the amount of speech, 3 functioned to check or confirm understanding, 1 functioned to edit students’ language, 9 functioned to specify the topic, 6 functioned to frame the time, 48 functioned to control students’ behavior, and 3 serves to ask students to work in groups. These findings illustrate that the role of the teacher to manage students in learning English is more dominant to develop students’ attitudes
