Abstract
However, in accordance with Beauvoir’s concept of existence, every individual including woman have the potential to transcend through the process of discovering the Self. This study aims to analyse how selfhood awareness contributes to women’s superiority in Walter Tevis' novel The Queen's Gambit. This study applies descriptive analytical approach to analyse the existence of women through the character of Beth with reference to Beauvoir's existentialist feminism regarding the “Other” and the “Self”, as well as Montagu's concept of the natural superiority of woman. The results of the study indicate that Beth's selfhood awareness regarding the otherness attached to woman contributes to women’s superiority.
