Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis konstruksi kecantikan perempuan dalam novel Beauty is a Wound karya Eka Kurniawan. Penulis menggunakan teori konstruksi sosial oleh Peter. L. Berger. Kutipan-kutipan yang dipilih akan dianalisis menggunakan teori keibuan oleh Nancy Chodorow yang akan ditelaah melalui tokoh utama novel. Metode penelitiannya yaitu metode kualitatif, data yang diperoleh berdasarkan narasi dan dialog tokoh yang tertera. Adapun teori penunjang lainnya dalam penelitian ini adalah teori representasi, feminisme, patriarki, kekerasan, dan peran ganda seorang ibu. Melalui kutipan yang sudah dianalisis menunjukkan sifat keibuan Dewi Ayu kepada putri-putrinya. Selain melakukan analisis pada tokoh utama, ada tokoh perempuan lain yang dibahas. Tokoh Cantik merupakan bentuk diskriminasi dan pandangan masyarakat tentang kecantikan, hal ini berkaitan dengan konstruksi sosial cantik melalui teori Peter. L. Berger. Dikisahkan Dewi Ayu adalah seorang pelacur, namun Eka Kurniawan menggambarkan tokoh itu sebagai perempuan yang memiliki nilai- nilai tertentu. Terlihat sebuah kontras antara profesi dan sikap Dewi Ayu dalam bertahan hidup. Novel ini mengambil latar waktu penjajahan Jepang yang kemudian menggambarkan realitas sosial tentang penindasan, patriarki, dan merendahkan martabat perempuan. Kata kunci: representasi, perempuan, diskriminasi, konstruksi kecantikan, keibuan ********* ABSTRACT This study aims to analyze the women's beauty construction in the novel Beauty is a Wound by Eka Kurniawan. The writer used Peter. L. Berger's theory. The selected quotations will be analyzed using the theory of mothering by Nancy Chodorow, which will be analyzed through the novel's main character. The research method is qualitative; the data obtained is based on the narrative and dialogue of the characters listed. The other supporting theories in this study are representation theory, feminism, patriarchy, violence, and the dual role of a mother. The quotations that have been analyzed show the mothering of Dewi Ayu to her daughters. In addition to analyzing the main character, other female characters are to be discussed. Cantik figures are discriminated against, and people's views about the form of Beauty are related to the social construction of Peter's theory. L. Berger. It is said that Dewi Ayu is a person who plays tricks, but Eka Kurniawan describes the character as a woman who has certain values. There is a contrast between the profession and Dewi Ayu's attitude toward survival. This novel takes the background of the Japanese era, which then describes the social reality of placing, patriarchy, and disrespecting women.
