Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperlihatkan bagaimana depresi digambarkan dari tindakan karakter utama melalui kata dan plot yang ada di Dream Theater Album, Metropolis part 2: Scene from a Memory. Melalui penggunaan metode deskriptif analitis interpretatif, Roland Barthes Semiotic, dan Freud Psychoanalysis and Dream Analysis, bertujuan untuk mengkaji bagaimana isu depresi digambarkan dalam album Dream Theater “Metropolis part 2 Scene from a Memory”. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa depresi digambarkan dalam lirik lagu album Scene from a Memory, terutama dalam sepuluh lirik lagu mereka. Interpretasi diberikan berdasarkan analisis dan penjelasan di balik makna dari lirik. Dari analisis tersebut, penulis menemukan beberapa kata, frasa, dan klausa yang mewakili tanda dan beberapa komponen penggambaran depresi. Album ini menyuguhkan kisah mencengangkan yang melibatkan dua cerita dalam satu tubuh. Kisah ini melibatkan kehidupan masa lalu, pembunuhan, bunuh diri, tragedi dan reinkarnasi. Menggunakan teori semiotika oleh Barthes, peneliti dapat menginterpretasikan makna dibalik lirik tersebut. Psikoanalisis juga dapat menggambarkan depresi yang terkandung dalam lirik. Dream Analysis berperan penting dalam mengkategorikan tahapan-tahapan yang terdapat dalam lagu.**** This study focuses on analyzing the depression that is portrayed from the main character action through choice of word and plot highlights as in Metropolis part 2 Scene from a Memory”. Through the use of descriptive analytical interpretative method, Roland Barthes Semiotic, and Freud Psychoanalysis and Dream Analysis, it aims to examine how Frederick deals with sexual identity crisis and how is the issue of depression portrayed in the album Dream Theater “Metropolis part 2 Scene from a Memory”. The results of this study show that depression is portrayed in Scene from a Memory album song lyrics, especially in their ten song lyrics. The interpretation is given based on the analysis and the explanation behind meaning from the lyrics. From the analysis, the writer found several words, phrases and clauses that represent signs and several components of portrayal of depression. The album presented an astonishing story involving two stories within one body. This story involved past life, murder, suicide, tragedy and reincarnation. Using theory semiotic by Barthes can interpret the behind meaning of the lyric. Psychoanalysis can describe the depression contained in the lyrics. Dream Analysis plays an important role in categorizing the stages contained in the song.
