Abstract

This study aims to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and difficulty in making career decisions in Tirta Sari Surya Jakarta Vocational High School students during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This study uses a quantitative approach with the research method used is the correlation method. The sampling technique in this study was convenience sampling. The number of respondents was 228 students of class X-XII at Tirta Sari Surya Vocational High School. Data was collected using the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale (WLEIS) instrument adapted by Denny Sekar Taji (2015) and the Career Decision Making Difficulty Scale which was adapted by Dede Rahmat Hidayat, Lara Fridani, and Diani Olga (2018), both instruments distributed in the form of google form. The results showed that: Research that aims to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and difficulty in making career decisions in Tirta Sari Surya Jakarta Vocational High School students during the COVID-19 Pandemic obtained Sig.(2-tailed) is 0.000 < 0.05, and the Pearson Correlation value is -0.272 (negative value). The results of the correlation analysis show that there is a negative correlation between emotional intelligence and the difficulty of making career decisions with a weak correlation level. Thus H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. Low emotional intelligence has a negative impact on career decision making, namely students cannot regulate emotions in themselves so they cannot respond effectively to existing emotions. This will have an impact on the way students identify their career choices, so students will experience difficulties in making career decisions.
