Abstract

Kata kunci: nilai moral, budaya Bali, semiotika sosial, lima babak naratif, buku cerita bergambar ***** This study analyses the moral values of Balinese culture which are represented in a picture book. The data were taken from a picture book entitled Balinese Children’s Favorite Stories. In conducting this analysis, the writer adopts the theory of Social Semiotics by Gunther Kress and Theo van Leeuwen to analyse the visual text of the book and also the five stages of narrative proposed by Tzvetan Todorov to analyse the written text. The results of the two are integrated with the theory of Ecocriticism which also includes the space and place of the book. The results of the analysis show that Balinese Children's Favorite Stories represents the moral values of Balinese culture which are closely related to the relationship between humans and nature. This is shown through visual text which is then supported by explanations in the written text. However, Balinese Children's Favorite Stories does not fully contain about the moral values of Balinese culture, but also moral values in general. Keywords: moral values, Balinese culture, social semiotics, five narrative acts, picture books
