Abstract
The Fox and The Hound. ******** This study analyzes the gender representation of the male and female characters in Walt Disney’s children’s picture books, titled The Lion King, Bambi, and The Fox and The Hound. Targeting children between the ages of 5-10, these books serve as a learning paradigm for children in their early ages. In descriptive qualitative method, the narrative texts of each book are analyzed using Todorov's narrative structure theory, while Kress and Leeuwen’s visual grammar is utilized for visual interpretations. The setting of the place is investigated using Hunt’s space and place, while the ecofeminism approach will be used in analyzing the ecological relationship between animals and humans. These research elements are related to the representation of gender in each main character of the books, which was examined using Golombok’s gender representation theory. The result of this study proved that the masculine traits stand out the most within the characters, rather than the feminine characteristics based on Golombok’s categorization of gender representation:Physical Appearance, Attitude & Interest, Personality Traits, Occupaations, and Social Relation.
