Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh emotional intelligence terhadap phubbing behavior siswa di salah satu Sekolah Menengah Pertama di DKI Jakarta. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Mei sampai dengan bulan Agustus tahun 2023. Sampel dalam penelitian ini dipilih dengan metode Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling dan melibatkan 236 siswa, yang terdiri atas kelas 7 dan 8. Data diperoleh menggunakan kuesioner. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengukur variabel emotional intelliegence adalah instrumen yang dikembangkan oleh NHS (2014) berdasarkan dimensi mengenali emosi diri, mengelola emosi diri, motivasi diri, mengelola emosi orang lain (empati), dan membina hubungan dan instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengukur variabel phubbing behavior adalah instrumen yang dikembangkan oleh Karadaǧ et al. (2015) berdasarkan dimensi gangguan komunikasi dan obsesi terhadap ponsel. Data diolah dan dianalisis dengan menggunakan statistika deskriptif dan statistika inferensial, yaitu uji regresi linear sederhana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa emotional intelliegence berpengaruh signifikan negatif terhadap phubbing behavior siswa sekolah menengah pertama (β=-0,253, p<0,05). Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa semakin rendah emotional intelliegence maka semakin tinggi phubbing behavior siswa. Kesadaran diri siswa sangat dibutuhkan untuk tidak berperilaku phubbing. Orang tua dan sekolah dapat bekerja sama untuk membimbing siswa dalam penggunaan smartphone. ***** This study aims to analyze the effect of emotional intelligence on students' phubbing behavior at a junior high school in DKI Jakarta. The research was conducted from May to August 2023. The sample in this study was selected using the Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling method and involved 236 students in grades 7 and 8. Data was obtained using a questionnaire. The instrument used to measure emotional intelligence is an instrument developed by the NHS (2014) based on the dimensions of recognizing self-emotions, managing self-emotions, self-motivation, managing other people's emotions (empathy), and building relationships and instrument used to measure phubbing behavior variable is an instrument developed by Karadaǧ et al. (2015) based on the dimensions of communication disturbance and phone obsession. Data were processed and analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, namely simple linear regression test. The results showed that emotional intelligence had a significant negative effect on phubbing behavior of junior high school students (β=-0.253, p<0.05). These results indicate that the lower the emotional intelligence, the higher the phubbing behavior of students. Student self-awareness is needed to avoid phubbing behavior. Parents and schools can work together to guide students in using smartphones.
