Abstract

This study aims to produce a learning model to recognize colors based on natural materials to improve the cognitive abilities of early childhood at Tisa Islamic School kindergarten. The research method used is research and development with the Dick and Carey development model. The Dick and Carey model consists of three stages, namely design, development, and evaluation. At the design and development stage, a learning model is produced which is equipped with learning materials and guidelines for teachers and early childhood. In the evaluation stage, it is divided into three stages, one-to-one evaluation by experts and learners: small group evaluations, and field trials. The results of the feasibility test on the learning model to recognize colors based on natural materials by material experts, instructional design experts, and media experts obtained an average of 84.44%, then carried out one-to-one evaluation by learners on three Early Childhood children obtained developed according to expectations, meaning that the quality of trials in this range is in the proper category. The results of the small group evaluation of seven early childhood students showed that 69.84% developed very well, 20.64% developed as expected, and 9.52% began to develop indicating that the learning model is feasible for main trials or field trials. The results of a field trial or test of the effectiveness of the learning model for 30 Early Childhood children were obtained by 67% developing very well, and 33% developing as expected, meaning that after the child's intervention improves their cognitive, the learning model is effective in improving the cognitive of early childhood range 5-6 year. The conclusion that the results of this development product are teaching materials and guides to recognize colors based on natural materials can improve the cognitive abilities of 5–6-yearold children. The Nature-Based Color Recognition Learning Model has been carried out correctly following the methods, procedures, principles, and development guided by needs analysis, planning, design, evaluation, and trials. The results of the field test found the fact that the learning model of recognizing colors based on natural materials can create learning that is feasible and effective in motivating children in learning.
