Abstract

****** This study is aimed to see how the novel ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ by Kevin Kwan (2013) is reflecting Asian female gender roles and how the female characters are acting in contrast of the gender roles as women empowerment. The study is being conducted by using Eagly’s Social Role Theory to see how the gender roles is being shown and Malhotra’s Women Empowerment theory to see how the female characters are acting under their strict culture. The result shows that the novel reflects a lot of Asian female gender roles on the female characters and forcing a lot of them to live the way the culture taught them to be. But the female characters also have their chance to live their own lives by their own rules and opinions without letting the culture bound them.
