Abstract

Skripsi ini menganalisis diaspora dan hybrid identity dari deming guo di dalam novel the leavers karya Lisa Ko. The Leavers sendiri menggambarkan bagaimana seorang imigran Cina di Amerika Serikat, dengan fokus pada perjuangannya dalam menghadapi hybrid identity dan meraih pengakuan sebagai bagian dari masyarakat Amerika Serikat yang diteliti dengan menganalisis kutipan narasi dan dialog yang ada di dalam novel dengan menggunakan teori hybrid identity Homi.K Bhabha. Deming sebagai diaspora menghadapi tantangan beradaptasi dengan budaya yang baru dan kehilangan akar identitasnya. Dampak dari adaptasi tersebut membuat Deming mengalami perasaan kebingungan dan keterasingan sehingga tidak diterima dalam masyarakat. Pada perjalanan Deming melakukan tiga cara yaitu yaitu identifikasi diri, tempat tinggal komunitas dan percampuran budaya dan bahasa dalam proses adaptasinya. Proses adaptasi yang dilakukan Deming pada akhirnya berhasil membuat Deming menerima dua kebudayaan (budaya asal dan budaya Amerika) tersebut sebagai bagian dari dirinya. ***** This thesis analyzes the diaspora and the hybrid identity of Deming Guo in Lisa Ko's novel The Leavers. The Leavers describes how a Chinese immigrant in the United States focuses on his struggles in dealing with hybrid identity and recognition as part of the listening American society by analyzing the narrative quotations and dialogues in the novel using Homi. K Bhabha's hybrid identity theory. Deming, as a diaspora, faces the challenge of adapting to a new culture and losing his identity roots. The impact of these conditions made Deming feel confused and alienated, so he was not accepted in society. On his journey, Deming did three things, namely self-help, community housing, and a mixture of cultures and languages, in his adaptation process. The adaptation process carried out by Deming ultimately succeeded in making Deming accept the two cultures (original culture and American culture) as part of himself.
