Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis dan mendeskripsikan eufemisme yang dilakukan media Pikiran Rakyat pada narasi beritanya tentang pembangunan ibu kota negara baru. Fokus penelitian ini adalah eufemisme dalam berita pembangunan ibu kota negara baru pada media daring Pikiran Rakyat. Adapun sub fokus pada penelitian ini yaitu menganalisis bentuk, fungsi dan makna eufemisme yang terdapat dalam berita pembangunan ibu kota negara baru media daring Pikiran Rakyat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik analisis isi, melalui sumber data narasi berita pembangunan ibu kota negara baru pada media daring Pikiran Rakyat edisi Oktober 2022 – Maret 2023. Hasil penelitian ditemukan 12 jenis eufemisme dari 16 jenis eufemisme menurut Allan Burridge, yaitu 7 bentuk data ekspresi figuratif, 5 bentuk metafora, 8 bentuk flipansi, 1 bentuk memodelkan kembali, 7 bentuk sirkumlokusi, 3 bentuk pelesapan, 14 bentuk satu kata untuk menggantikan satu kata yang lain, 5 bentuk umum ke khusus, 1 bentuk sebagian untuk keseluruhan, 3 bentuk hiperbola, 4 bentuk makna di luar pernyataan, 6 bentuk jargon dan 1 bentuk kolokial. Makna yang terkandung saling terkait dengan kalimat dan konteks berita. Fungsi penggunaan eufemisme yang ditemukan diantaranya yaitu, 31 bentuk eufemisme berfungsi untuk menghaluskan ucapan, 17 bentuk sebagai alat berdiplomasi, 12 bentuk sebagai alat merahasiakan sesuatu dan 6 bentuk sebagai alat untuk pendidikan.*****The aim of this research is to analyze and describe the use of euphemisms in the narrative of news about the construction of the new national capital by the media online platform of Pikiran Rakyat. The focus of this study is on euphemisms within the news coverage of the new national capital development on the online platform of Pikiran Rakyat. The sub-focus of this research is to analyze the forms, functions, and meanings of the euphemisms found in the news coverage of the new national capital development on Pikiran Rakyat's online platform. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with content analysis techniques, utilizing narrative news data on the new national capital development from the online platform of Pikiran Rakyat from October 2022 to March 2023.The research results reveal 12 types of euphemisms out of the 16 types identified by Allan Burridge, namely 7 forms of figurative expression, 5 forms of metaphors, 8 forms of euphemistic expressions, 1 form of rephrasing, 7 forms of circumlocution, 3 forms of understatement, 14 forms of one word replacing another, 5 forms of general to specific, 1 form of part for whole, 3 forms of hyperbole, 4 forms of meaning beyond the statement, 6 forms of jargon, and 1 form of colloquialism. The meanings contained in the euphemisms are closely related to the sentence and context of the news. The functions of euphemisms include 31 instances of euphemisms used to soften speech, 17 instances as diplomatic tools, 12 instances as means of concealing something, and 6 instances as educational tools.
