Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kecenderungan fesyen dan gaya hidup dari punk yang direpresentatikan di majalah Alternative Press dengan menggunakan teori representasi dan identitas dari Stuart Hall. Metodologi deskriptif analitis diterapkan untuk menganalisis elemen-elemen fesyen dan gaya hidup punk berdasarkan pilihan ‘wujud’ simbol milik Hebdige yang dibuktikan dalam gaya berpakaian, gaya rambut, dan sepatu. Untuk membuat analisis ini lengkap, peneliti menambahkan tokoh-tokoh punk sebagai representasi dalam analisis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kecenderungan fesyen dan gaya hidup dari punk dapat dilihat melalui dua sisi; makna yang direfleksikan dan makna yang dibentuk melalui objek representasi. Fesyen dan gaya hidup yang direfleksikan oleh punk cenderung menyampaikan pesan di dalam subkultur melalui objek representasi. Fesyen dan gaya hidup yang dibentuk oleh punk cenderung menciptakan makna baru melalui objek representasi. This study aims to analyze the disposition of punk fashion and lifestyle represented in Alternative Press Magazine using the theory of representation and identity from Stuart Hall. Descriptive analytical methodology is applied to analyze the elements of punk fashion and lifestyle based on Hebdige’s symbolic ‘tangible’ choices manifested in clothing styles, hairstyles and footwear. In order to make it complete, the researcher adds punk figures as the representation in the analysis. The result of this study shows that disposition of punk fashion and lifestyle in Alternative Press Magazine can be seen through two points of view; reflected meaning and constructed meaning through object representation. Punk fashion and lifestyle which are reflected by the punks tend to deliver the existed meaning in the subculture through object representation. Punk fashion and lifestyle which are constructed by the punks tend to create new meaning through object representation.
