Abstract

ABSTRAK Ketersediaan materi ajar membaca interpretatif yang belum merepresentasikan kebutuhan mahasiswa disinyalir sebagai rendahnya kemampuan pemahaman interpretatif mahasiswa di Program Studi Tadrsi Bahasa Inggris UIN Mataram. Untuk itu, penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan materi ajar membaca interpretatif berbasis pendekatan interaktif. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah desain penelitian dan pengembangan (R&D). Model pengembangan yang diadopsi untuk mengembangkan model materi ajar ini adalah model pengembangan materi ajar Jolly & Bolitho yang terdiri atas tujuh langkah pengembangan yaitu (1) identifikasi kebutuhan, (2) eksplorasi kebutuhan, (3) realisasi kontekstual materi ajar, (4) realisasi pedagogis materi ajar, (5) produksi fisik materi ajar, (6) penggunaan materi oleh peserta didik, dan (7) evaluasi materi. Lingkup materi dan indikator capaian ditentukan menggunakan tiga patokan atau kerangka kerja: Pertama, CEFR yaitu untuk menentukan indikator capaian berdasarkan tingkat kecakapan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa, yaitu pada level menengah (intermediate). Kedua, Taksonomi Barrett untuk menentukan fokus dan cakupan membaca interpretatif khususnya pada level interpretatif yang terdiri atas kemampuan menarik inferensi (1) informasi detail (2) ide pokok, (3) urutan proses/kejadian, (4) perbandingan, (5) hubungan sebab-akibat, (6) sifat karakter, (7) luaran, dan (8) bahasa figuratif. Ketiga, Taksonomi Bloom untuk melihat kemampuan membaca interpretatif mahasiswa dalam bentuk penyelesaian tugas pemahaman atau aktivitas pembelajaran yang dilalui. Model ajar memuat aktivitas yang memfasilitasi mahasiswa berinteraksi dengan teks dan dengan sesama mahasiswa. Model materi ajar telah diuji secara teoretis dan empiris. Uji teoretis dilakukan melalui uji validasi ahli yang menyimpulkan bahwa model materi ajar dinyatakan layak dalam aspek bahasa, materi ajar, strategi, dan desain grafis. Uji empiris dilakukan melalui uji one-to-one, uji kelompok kecil dan uji kelompok. Berdsarkan hasil uji eksperimen, model materi ajar dinyatakan efektif. Dengan dmikian, materi ajar dapat diterapkan sebagai salah satu rujukan pembelajaran membaca interpretatif. Kata kunci: model materi ajar, membaca interpretatif, pendekatan interaktif iii ABSTRACT The lack of interpretive reading teaching materials is suspected to be due to the low level of interpretive comprehension skills among students of the English Language Teaching Department of UIN Mataram. For this reason, this research aims at developing interpretive reading materials based on the interactive approach. The research design implemented is the Reasearch and Development (RnD) design. The development model adopted is the Jolly & Bolitho instructional material development model, which consists of seven development steps namely: (1) needs identification, (2) needs exploration, (3) contextual realization on teaching material, (4) pedagogical realization of teaching material, (5) physical production of teaching material, (6) use of material by students, and (7) material evaluation. The scope of material and achievement indicators are determined by using three benchmarks or framework: First, the CEFR, used to determine achievement indicators based on students’ English language proficiency level, which is at the intermediate level. Second, the Barrett Taxonomy is employed to determine the focus and scope of reading comprehension, particularly at the interpretive level, comprising the ability to draw inferences about (1) detailed information, (2) main ideas, (3) sequence of processes/events, (4) comparisons, (5) cause-effect relationship, (6) character traits, (7) outcomes, and (8) figurative language. Third, the Bloom’s Taxonomy is utilized to assess students’ interpretive reading abilities through done completion of comprehension tastks or learning activities they experience. The teaching model incorporates activities that facilitate students’ interaction with texts and with fellow students. The instructional material model had been theoretically and empirically tested. The theoretical testing involved expert validation, which concluded that the teaching material model is deemed suitable in terms of language, content, strategies, dan graphic design. Empirical testing was carried out through one-to-one testing, small-group testing, and large group testing. Based on the experimental test, the teaching material model is deemed effective. Thus, the teaching material can be implemented as a reference for interpretive reading instruction. Keywords: teaching material model, interpretive reading, interactive approach
