Abstract
**** This study aims to describe the forms of violence against women using Roland Barthes's semiotic analysis in the films “Story of Kale: When Someone's in Love” and “Posesif”, and explain how patriarchal practices perpetuate violence against women. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method and is carried out using films as research objects and analyzing using Roland Barthes’s semiotics. This research was conducted in September 2022. Data collection techniques in the form of film observation, film documentation in the form of screenshots of scenes contained in the film, non-formal interviews with three viewers and literature study. This research was also strengthened by triangulation informants by a lecturer of FFTV IKJ, namely Mrs. EA. In this study, the author took 13 scenes from the movie "Story of Kale" and 14 scenes from the movie "Posesif" that depict violence against women. The author found forms of violence against women in the films "Story of Kale" and "Posesif", namely emotional violence in the form of yelling, insulting, threatening both verbally and physically, controlling, manipulating, and silent surveillance. Physical violence in the form of gripping the face and body, pushing the body, grabbing, and choking. Sexual violence in the form of unwanted kissing attempts. Deprivation of liberty in the form of restrictions on women's lives, and physical restraint. These forms of violence point to a patriarchal culture. Although the perception of patriarchal culture depends on each individual in interpreting it, the results of the author's analysis show that male characters in both films lead to patriarchal cultural practices that weaken women and seem to perpetuate violence against women through the process of internalizing values and norms that become habitual and normalized by society
