Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan studi film yang bertujuan mendeskripsikan gambaran perjuangan sebagai perempuan dalam menjalani hidupnya yang dihadirkan dalam film Before, Now, & Then (Nana) dan menjabarkan wacana kritis berupa posisi subjek-objek dan juga posisi penulis-penonton dari berbagai adegan dalam film untuk menjelaskan perjuangan perempuan terutama dalam menemukan dirinya dengan menggunakan perspektif eksistensialisme Simone de Beauvoir. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan objek penelitian film Before, Now, & Then (Nana) dan dianalisis melalui metode analisis wacana Sara Mills. Penelitian yang dilakukan dari bulan Juli hingga bulan Desember 2023. Untuk melihat perjuangan perempuan yang ditampilkan dalam film Before, Now, & Then (Nana), penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analisis wacana Sara Mills yang terdiri atas posisi subjek-objek dan posisi penulis-penonton. Teknik ini dilakukan untuk melihat bagaimana perempuan diposisikan dalam film. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik dokumentasi, yakni menganalisis adegan baik berupa gambar, dialog serta narasi yang ada dalam film. Selain itu juga dilakukan wawancara untuk triangulasi data dengan penulis naskah film. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa dalam film perempuan lebih banyak diposisikan sebagai objek. Hal ini sejalan dengan realitas perempuan pada era 1950-1960-an dalam film Before, Now, & Then (Nana), dimana perempuan tidak bisa menentukan hidupnya sendiri. Melainkan ditentukan oleh laki-laki baik itu ayah ataupun suami. Hal ini dikarenakan perempuan memiliki kedudukan yang lemah karena dianggap sebagai sang liyan atau warga kelas dua yang tidak dapat memutuskan kehidupannya sendiri. Semua hal diatur dalam budaya patriarki, yang mana laki-laki sebagai sang diri. Ketika perempuan itu sadar akan keinginannya untuk bebas, perempuan pun melakukan perlawanan sebagai bentuk dari perjuangannya, dengan cara keluar dari sosoknya yang liyan dan memutuskan sendiri kehidupan yang ingin dijalaninya. ***** This research is a film study which aims to describe the depiction of the struggle as a woman in living her life which is presented in the film Before, Now, & Then (Nana) and describes critical discourse in the form of subject-object positions and also author-reviewer positions from various scenes in the film to explain woman's struggles, especially in finding themselves, using Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist perspective. This research uses a qualitative approach with the research object being the film Before, Now, & Then (Nana) and analyzed using the Sara Mills discourse analysis method. The research was conducted from July to December 2023. To see the struggles of woman shown in the film Before, Now, & Then (Nana), this research used Sara Mills' discourse analysis technique which consists of subject-object position and author-reviewer position. This technique is used to see how woman are positioned in films. Data collection was carried out using documentation techniques, namely analyzing scenes in the form of images, dialogue and narration in the film. Apart from that, interviews were also conducted to triangulate the data with the film script writers. The results of the research state that in films woman are mostly positioned as objects. This is in line with the reality of woman in the 1950-1960s era in the film Before, Now, & Then (Nana), where woman could not determine their own lives. Rather, it is determined by the man, be it father or husband. This is because woman have a weak position because they are considered the other or the second class citizens who cannot decide on their own lives. Everything is regulated in a patriarchal culture, where men are the self. When the woman realizes her desire to be free, the woman also fights as a form of her struggle, by getting out of her other self and deciding for herself the life she wants to live.
