Abstract

***ABSTRACT****** This research aims to determine the types of automatic translation errors in translating French nouns into Indonesian in three France24.com news texts by Google Translate. The research method used in this research is content analysis. The data sources used research are three news articles from the france24.com site in French as well as their translated results in Indonesian via Google Translate. The theory used to analyze translation error comes from the theory put forward by Dastjerdi and Abdolmaleki (2012), which covers syntactic errors, semantic errors and pragmatic errors. However, this research is only limited to semantic errors, which consist of addition, omission, terminology, faithfulness, literalness, faux ami, ambiguity, diacritical marks, capitalization, word form, spelling, and verb tense. The results of this research show that of the 37 data representing translation errors at the noun phrase level, there are 2 addition errors, 2 omission errors, 6 terminology errors, 2 faithfulness errors, 13 literalness errors, 1 faux ami error, 6 ambiguity errors, 2 capitalization errors, and 3 spelling errors. Diacritical marks, word form and verb tense errors were not found.
