Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita materi himpunan berdasarkan kriteria Watson serta mendeskripsikan penyebab kesalahan tersebut. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan tes tertulis kepada 73 siswa kelas VII MTs Hidayatullah Kota Bekasi. Dipilih subjek penelitian sebanyak enam siswa dengan pertimbangan kesalahan terbanyak dan bersedia untuk diwawancarai. Tes tertulis dilakukan untuk mengetahui letak kesalahan siswa berdasarkan kriteria Watson yang dikategorikan menjadi data tidak tepat, prosedur tidak tepat, data hilang, kesimpulan hilang, manipulasi tidak langsung, masalah hierarki keterampilan, dan selain ketujuh kategori di atas. Wawancara dilakukan untuk mengetahui penyebab kesalahan. Analisis data dilakukan secara kualitatif dengan beberapa langkah, yaitu pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kedelapan kesalahan siswa berdasarkan kriteria Watson tampak dilakukan oleh keenam subjek penelitian. Penyebab kesalahan data tidak tepat adalah lupa dan kurang teliti. Penyebab kesalahan prosedur tidak tepat adalah tidak mengetahui cara menuliskan langkah-langkah penyelesaian soal. Penyebab kesalahan data hilang adalah kurang teliti. Penyebab kesalahan kesimpulan hilang adalah ketidakpahaman terkait cara membuat kesimpulan. Penyebab kesalahan konflik level respon adalah tidak belajar sebelum menghadapi tes. Penyebab kesalahan manipulasi tidak langsung adalah bingung dalam memaknai soal. Penyebab kesalahan masalah hierarki keterampilan adalah tidak teliti dalam melakukan perhitungan. Penyebab kesalahan selain ketujuh kategori di atas adalah mengganggap soal yang diberikan terlalu sulit. ***** This research aims to describe the errors made by students in solving word problems for set material based on Watson's criteria and to describe the causes of these errors. The type of research is descriptive qualitative research. Data was collected by written test on 73 students of 7th grade at MTs Hidayatullah Bekasi. Six students were selected as research subjects considering the most errors and who were willing to be interviewed. A written test is conducted to find out where students' error are based on Watson's criteria which are categorized into inappropriate data, inappropriate procedure, omitted data, omitted conclusion, response level conflict, undirected manipulation, skills hierarchy problem, and above other. Interviews are conducted to determine the cause of the error. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively using several steps, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the eight students’ error based on Watson's criteria appeared to be made by the six research subjects. The causes of the inappropriate data are forget and lack of thoroughness. The cause of the inappropriate procedure is do not know how to write the steps to solve the problem. The cause of the omitted data is lack of thoroughness. The cause of the omitted conclusion is do not understand how to make conclusions. The cause of the response level conflict is not study before face the test. The cause of the undirect manipulation is confuse in interpreting the question. The cause of the skill hierarchy problem is lack of thoroughness in calculations. The cause of the above other is considering the given question is too difficult.
