Abstract

***** Mental health in Indonesia is still a mental issue that cannot be ignored. The negative label given to people with mental disorders is one of the obstacles in overcoming mental health issues in Indonesia. People at times find that they face problems that they consider seeking help for. This study aims to determine the effect of self-compassion on self-stigma of seeking help in young adult individuals. This study uses quantitative methods by obtaining 404 respondents aged 18-25 years in Indonesia. The instruments used were the Self-Compassion Scale (SWD) to measure self-compassion and the Self-Stigma of Seeking Help Scale (SSOSH) to measure self-stigma of seeking help. The results of this study found that self-compassion has an influence of 14.3% on self-stigma of seeking help in young adults. Increasing the knowledge and awareness of the community, especially young people, about self-compassion can be one of the efforts to empower individuals internally in overcoming the self-stigma of seeking help in the midst of rampant mental health issues in Indonesia.
