Abstract

***** This study aims to investigate the relationship between music engagement and stress in emerging adulthood in the Jabodetabek area. The study included 175 respondents within the emerging adulthood age range. The results were analyzed using Pearson correlation tests. Music engagement was measured using the Music Engagement Questionnaire (MusEQ), while stress was measured using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10). The findings indicate that out of the six dimensions of music engagement examined, only the emotion dimension showed a significant relationship with the stress variable (p = 0.041, p < 0.05). The other dimensions—daily (p = 0.302), perform (p = 0.592), consume (p = 0.675), respond (p = 0.124), and prefer (p = 0.893)—did not show significant relationships with stress. Based on these results, emotional engagement with music can be considered a tool for emotional regulation and coping. Emerging adults need to focus on the issues causing stress and seek appropriate alternative solutions.
