Abstract

Skripsi ini menganalisis diskriminasi dan kesetaraan gender dari Ruth Bader Ginsburg dalam film On The Basis of Sex. On The Basis of Sex sendiri menggambarkan bagaimana seorang perempuan berjuang melawan diskriminasi dan ketidaksetaraan hak yang didapatkan di kehidupan masyarakat Amerika Serikat sekitar tahun 1950 an yang diteliti dengan menganalisis dialog pada film On The Basis of Sex dengan menggunakan teori Patriarchy oleh Allan G. johnson dan Mary Wollstonecraft “A Vindication of The Right Women” dalam buku “Feminist Thought” oleh Rosemarie Tong. Ruth sebagai seorang perempuan berjuang menghadapi diskriminasi dan ketidakadilan yang ia dapatkan semasa sekolahnya di Harvard Law School dan kehidupan masyarakat. Hasil dari proses perjuangan Ruth berhasil mematahkan stereotip budaya mengenai perempuan dan membuktikan bahwa perempuan juga memiliki kemampuan yang setara dengan para pria.*****This thesis analyzed discrimination and gender equality of Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the film On The Basis of Sex. On The Basis of Sex itself describes how a woman struggled against discrimination and unequal rights she received in American society around the 1950s. The researcher analyzed the dialogue in the film On The Basis of Sex using Patriarchy “The Gender Knot” theory by Allan G. Johnson and Liberal feminism theory by Mary Wollstonecraft “A Vindication of The Right Women” in the “Feminist Thought “ book by Rosemarie Tong. Ruth as a woman struggled to face the discrimination and injustice that she experienced during her studies at Harvard Law School and her everyday life. The result of Ruth’s struggle was to break cultural stereotypes about women and prove that women also have abilities equal to men.
