Abstract

NADYA YASMINE SUGEUMA.2020. Racism in Logic’s Song lyrics. Thesis, Jakarta: English Literature Study Programme, Faculty of Language and Art, State University of Jakarta. Racism in the United States has been historically become a major issue since the colonial era. This study analyzes three of Logic’s song lyrics entitled Black Spiderman, Take It Back and Everybody. Justin Healey’s forms of racism and Semiotic theory by Roland Barthes will help the writer analyzing racism in Logic’s song lyrics. Also, the sociology of literature theory by Rene Wellek and Austin Warren is used to analyze how Logic’s background influences his writing. From the analysis, there are 19 forms of Discrimination, 13 forms of Prejudice, 10 forms of Stereotype that portrayed in Logic’s song lyrics. These racism issues that appears in his song are related to his social background. In conlusion, as a biracial, Logic often experiences racism from both sides of white and black man. He wrote about those kinds of experience in his lyrics and that become the factor that has influenced his writing. Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Rasisme di Amerika Serikat sudah menjadi isu besar sejak era kolonial. Penilitian ini menganalisis tiga lirik lagu Logic yang berjudul Black Spiderman, Take It Back and Everybody. Teori dari bentuk-bentuk rasisme oleh Justin Healey dan teori semiotika oleh Roland Barthes akan membantu penulis menganalisa rasisme di lirik lagu Logic. Teori sosiologis sastra oleh Rene Wellek and Austin Warren juga akan digunakan untuk menganalisa bagaimana latar belakang sosiologis Logic mempengaruhi tulisannya. Dari penelitian ini ditemukan 19 bentuk Diskriminasi, 13 bentuk Prasangka, 10 bentuk Stereotip yang digambarkan dalam lirik lagu Logic. Isu rasisme yang muncul dalam lagunya ini berkaitan dengan latar belakang sosialnya. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa sebagai biracial, Logic mengalami perlakuan rasis dari kedua sisi orang kulit hitam maupun kulit putih. Dia menulis pengalamannya ini di lirik lagunya and hal tersebut menjadi faktor yang mempengaruhi tulisannya. Kata kunci: Rasisme, Logic, Lirik Lagu, Latar Belakang Sosiologis
