Skripsi, Jakarta: Program Studi Pendidikan Sejarah, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Hukum, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, 2024. Sejak kereta api masuk ke Indonesia, “livery” menjadi salah satu bagian dari perjalanan sejarah tersebut. Target penelitian dalam penelitian ini adalah kereta api penumpang tak berpenggerak dan lokomotif yang ada di Pulau Jawa dari masa Perusahaan Umum Kereta Api (Perumka) sampai masa PT. Kereta Api Indonesia dari tahun 1991-2018. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan informasi dan gambaran mengenai perkembangan “livery” pada kereta api penumpang dan lokomotif dari masa Perusahaan Umum Kereta Api (Perumka) sampai masa PT. Kereta Api Indonesia dari tahun 1991-2018. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian historis yang terdiri dari beberapa tahap, yaitu penentuan masalah penelitian, heuristik, verifikasi, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Pada penelitian ini, penerapan metode penelitian historis dan dipaparkan secara deskriptif analisis menggunakan teori jiwa zaman karena “livery” kereta merupakan gambaran dari jiwa zaman pada masa itu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perubahan dalam perusahaan jasa kereta api, dari PJKA hingga menjadi PT KAI, telah mempengaruhi “livery” pada sarana kereta api. Setiap perubahan status perusahaan membawa perubahan signifikan pada “livery” lokomotif dan sarana kereta. Beberapa “livery” yang digunakan selama periode ini mencerminkan identitas baru perusahaan dan upaya meningkatkan citra serta kualitas layanan. Ragam “livery” ini sangat bervariasi dan umumnya diklasifikasikan berdasarkan kelas sarana, seperti eksekutif, bisnis, dan ekonomi, serta merepresentasikan inovasi desain dan identitas perusahaan serta jiwa zaman pada masa itu. Since the introduction of railways in Indonesia, livery has been an integral part of its historical journey. The focus of this study is on unpowered passenger train cars and locomotives on the island of Java during the period from the Perusahaan Umum Kereta Api (Perumka) era to the PT Kereta Api Indonesia era, spanning the years 1991 to 2018. This research aims to provide information and insights into the development of train and locomotive livery during this period. The study employs a historical research method comprising several stages: problem identification, heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. This method is applied descriptively and analytically using the theory of Zeitgeist, as train liveries represent the spirit of the times during their respective eras. The findings reveal that changes in the railway service company, from PJKA to PT KAI, significantly influenced the livery of locomotives and train cars. Each corporate status transition brought notable changes to the livery, reflecting the company’s new identity and efforts to enhance its image and service quality. The variety of liveries used during this period generally corresponds to the class of service, such as executive, business, and economy, representing innovations in design, corporate identity, and the spirit of the era.
