Abstract
***** Internet addiction is characterized by a psychological dependence on internet use, manifesting as prolonged and excessive engagement, and resulting in anxiety when internet connectivity is disrupted. One of the factors contributing to internet addiction is the parent-child relationship. This condition can arise from unmet social and emotional support within the family, leading children to seek fulfillment of these needs through the internet. This study aimed to investigate the influence of the parent-child relationship on internet addiction. A quantitative associative research method was employed, with data collection conducted from April 2024 to January 2025. A proportionate stratified random sampling technique was used to obtain a sample of 286 students from grades 7, 8, and 9 at a public middle school in Bogor. The study found that both parent-child relationship and internet addiction levels were within the normal range. Based on simple linear regression analysis, the regression equation was Ŷ=64,889-0,178x. These results indicate a significant negative relationship between parent-child relationship and internet addiction, meaning that a stronger parent-child relationship is associated with lower levels of internet addiction, and conversely, a weaker parent-child relationship is associated with higher levels of internet addiction. Regression analysis showed that the parent-child relationship significantly influenced internet addiction (p-value = 0.000 < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.086, indicating that 8.6% of the variance in internet addiction could be explained by the parent-child relationship.
