Abstract

Lisana Shidqi Alya, Reorientasi Organisasi Gerakan Mahasiswa Pasca Dualisme Kepengurusan Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Seluruh Indonesia (Bem SI) Studi Pada: Bem Seluruh Indonesia, Skripsi, Jakarta: Program Studi Sosiologi, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Hukum, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, 2025. This study aims to examine the origins of the dualism within BEM Seluruh Indonesia, analyze the impact of this dualism on the student movement, and explain how BEM Seluruh Indonesia strives to remain a platform for social movements among students post-dualism. The research employed a qualitative method, involving nine participants as subjects. These subjects included two members of BEM SI Rakyat Bangkit, two members of BEM SI Kerakyatan, one former member of BEM SI, one student activist, two activists who are also political observers from student organizations, and one analyst and political observer. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. Observations were conducted online, with no offline locations visited during the research process. The study was conducted over approximately one year. To analyze the findings, this research utilized the Concept of Social Movements as its conceptual framework. The research findings indicate that the dualism within the Indonesian Student Alliance (BEM SI) is rooted in the polemic during the National Conference (Munas) in 2021 at Andalas University, exacerbated by ideological differences, interests, and affiliations with external organizations among its members. This dualism has led to fragmentation within the student movement, weakening coordination and causing public confusion regarding the legitimacy of BEM SI as a representative of students. Nevertheless, there exists a paradox in the similarities of movement patterns and actions between both factions, reflecting the dynamics of collective action as described in Giddens' social movement theory. This study contributes to the understanding of the dynamics of student movements and their implications for social change in Indonesia. Practical implications include recommendations for unifying the vision and mission of student movements, managing ideological differences more constructively, and utilizing informal coordination strategies and digital technology to ensure that BEM SI remains an effective platform for student advocacy.
