Abstract
Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi pemikiran pendidikan Nurcholish Madjid dalam kerangka wawasan kebangsaan di Indonesia pada periode 1971–2002. Sebagai seorang pemikir yang memadukan tradisi Islam dengan nilai-nilai modernitas, Madjid mengusung konsep pendidikan yang berorientasi pada keterbukaan, pluralisme, dan demokratisasi ilmu. Gagasan tersebut diwujudkan melalui pendirian institusi pendidikan yang mencerminkan integrasi antara nilai kebangsaan dan keislaman dalam membangun masyarakat yang berpikiran maju. Dengan menggunakan metode historis dalam format deskriptif-analitis, penelitian ini mengikuti tahapan heuristik, kritik, interpretasi, dan penulisan sejarah sebagaimana dirumuskan dalam kajian sejarah kritis. Analisis teoretis mengacu pada Sosiologi Pengetahuan Karl Mannheim dan konsep Intelektual Organik Antonio Gramsci, yang dikontekstualisasikan dalam wawasan kebangsaan sebagaimana diuraikan oleh Mochtar Buchori, mencakup aspek moral dan intelektual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemikiran pendidikan Nurcholish Madjid berkontribusi nyata dalam memperkuat wawasan kebangsaan di Indonesia. Pendidikan, dalam perspektifnya, bukan sekadar sarana transfer ilmu, melainkan juga instrumen pembentukan kesadaran kolektif yang mendorong integrasi sosial dan penguatan identitas nasional. Gagasan-gagasan tersebut tidak hanya menjadi wacana, tetapi juga terimplementasi dalam institusi pendidikan yang didirikannya, yang hingga kini berperan dalam mencetak generasi intelektual berwawasan kebangsaan. As a thinker who integrated Islamic traditions with modern values, Madjid advocated for an educational model emphasizing openness, pluralism, and the democratization of knowledge. These ideas were realized through the establishment of educational institutions that embody both national and Islamic values in shaping a progressive society. Employing the historical method in a descriptive-analytical format, this study adheres to the stages of heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography, as formulated in critical historical studies. The theoretical analysis is based on Karl Mannheim’s Sociology of Knowledge and Antonio Gramsci’s concept of the Organic Intellectual, contextualized within Mochtar Buchori’s framework of national insight, which encompasses moral and intellectual aspects. The findings indicate that Nurcholish Madjid’s educational thought contributed tangibly to enhancing national insight in Indonesia. In his perspective, education is not merely a means of knowledge transmission but also an instrument for shaping collective consciousness, fostering social integration, and reinforcing national identity. His ideas were not limited to discourse but were effectively implemented in the educational institutions he founded, which continue to play a crucial role in nurturing intellectuals with a strong sense of national awareness.
