Abstract

Risha Perwita, Pilihan Rasional Relawan Pendamping Mahasiswa Disabilitas di Kampus (Studi Kasus Relawan Disabilitas di Universitas Negeri Jakarta) Skripsi. Jakarta: Program Studi Sosiologi, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Hukum, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, 2025. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan aktivitas Relawan Disabilitas UNJ dalam memberikan layanan bagi mahasiswa disabilitas dan bagaimana pilihan rasional yang mendorong mahasiswa bergabung dalam organisasi Relawan Disabilitas UNJ membantu mahasiswa disabilitas di kampus. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara mendalam. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari 7 informan utama yang merupakan anggota Relawan Disabilitas yang telah menjabat selama 2 tahun dan 5 orang informan pendukung yaitu relawan baru serta mahasiswa disabilitas di UNJ. Triangulasi dalam penelitian ini adalah Bapak L selaku pembina organisasi. Penelitian ini dilakukan di kampus UNJ dan daring melalui Zoom dan media sosial Instagram pada bulan Desember 2024 hingga Mei 2025. Pada penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Teori Pilihan Rasional untuk memahami motivasi yang mendorong mahasiswa menjadi relawan bagi mahasiswa disabilitas. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Relawan Disabilitas UNJ memiliki berbagai program kerja strategis untuk memberikan bekal bagi relawan, menyebarluaskan isu disabilitas, dan pendampingan untuk mahasiswa disabilitas selama mengikuti perkuliahan di UNJ. Namun, dalam praktiknya menghadapi tantangan, yakni permintaan pendampingan yang mendadak, keterbatasan sumber daya yang berkaitan dengan belum memiliki SK Rektor, dan fasilitas di kampus yang belum sepenuhnya inklusif. Adapun mahasiswa yang menjadi relawan memiliki motivasi internal yang meliputi ketertarikan pada isu disabilitas, keinginan untuk bermanfaat, pengembangan soft skill dan mendapatkan pengalaman baru, serta motivasi eksternal, yaitu pengaruh kultur, peran sosial, kepercayaan, serta nilai dan norma lingkungan. Temuan ini memperkuat relevansi teori pilihan rasional James S. Coleman yang menyatakan bahwa motivasi internal dan eksternal mempengaruhi preferensi mahasiswa melalui proses pertimbangan yang rasional dengan mempertimbangkan manfaat dan biaya. Oleh karena itu, tindakan individu dalam sistem sosial selalu dipengaruhi oleh pertimbangan untung-rugi, batasan institusional, dan peluang yang tersedia. Rational Choice of Student Volunteers Supporting Students with Disabilities on Campus (A Case Study of Disability Volunteers at Universitas Negeri Jakarta). Undergraduate Thesis. Jakarta: Sociology Study Program, Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, 2025. This study focuses on the strategic work programs to support students with disabilities and Explore the rational choices that motivate university students to become volunteers for peers with disabilities during their academic journey and campus life through the Disability Volunteer organization at Universitas Negeri Jakarta. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews. The study involved seven main informants who have been activate members of Disability Volunteer organization for at least two years, and five supporting informants consisting of new volunteer members and students with disabilities at UNJ. triangulation was carried out with Mr.L, the organization’s advisor. The research was conducted at UNJ and virtually via Zoom and Instagram from December to May 2025. The rational Choice Theory is employed as an analytical tool to understand the motivations behind student’s decisions to volunteer for peers with disabilities. The result show that the Disability Volunteers at UNJ have developed several strategic programs aimed at equipping volunteers, raising awareness of disability issues, and assistance services for students with disabilities. However, the organization faces challenges, including last-minute request for assistance, limited resources due in part to the absence of formal recognition through Rector’s Decree, and the lack of fully inclusive campus facilities. Students who choose to become volunteers are driven by internal motivations such as interest in disability issues, the desire to contribute to others, soft skill development, and gaining new experience. External motivations also play a role, including cultural influences, social roles, beliefs, and the values and norms of their surrounding environment. These result support the relevance of James S.Coleman’s Rational Choice Theory, which asserts that both motivation influence individual preferences through a rational consideration process. Therefore, individual actions within a social system are always influenced by cost-benefit considerations, institutional constraints, and the available opportunities.
