Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh paparan konten LGBT terhadap orientasi seksual mahasiswa. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara mendalam terhadap sepuluh mahasiswa Universitas Negeri Jakarta yang pernah mengakses konten bertema LGBT. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa paparan yang intens dan berulang terhadap konten LGBT berdampak pada tiga hal utama, yaitu perubahan cara pandang terhadap orientasi seksual, munculnya kebingungan identitas seksual, serta dalam beberapa kasus terjadi perubahan orientasi seksual. Konten yang paling memengaruhi adalah yang bersifat naratif, emosional, dan mudah dihubungkan dengan pengalaman pribadi, seperti webtoon, fanfiction, drama seri, dan video pendek di media sosial. Analisis temuan dilakukan dengan menggunakan teori kultivasi dan teori pembentukan identitas dari Erik Erikson. Penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya literasi media dan peran pendampingan sosial dalam membantu mahasiswa menghadapi proses eksplorasi identitas secara sehat dan tetap selaras dengan nilai-nilai budaya lokal. ***** This study aims to examine the influence of LGBT-themed media exposure on the sexual orientation of university students. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with data collected through in-depth interviews involving ten students from Universitas Negeri Jakarta who had accessed LGBT-related content. The findings reveal that intensive and repeated exposure to LGBT content has three main impacts: changes in perception of sexual orientation, the emergence of sexual identity confusion, and, in some cases, a shift in sexual orientation. The most influential content tends to be narrative-driven, emotionally engaging, and relatable to personal experiences, such as webtoons, fanfiction, drama series, and short videos on digital platforms. The findings were analyzed using cultivation theory and Erikson's theory of identity development. This study underscores the importance of media literacy and the role of social support in assisting students through identity exploration in a healthy way, while remaining aligned with cultural and local values.
