Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peran ibu tunggal dalam mencukupi kebutuhan ekonomi dalam keluarganya serta bagaimana kemiskinan yang dialami oleh mereka, mendeskripsikan stigma sosial terkait dengan keberadaan para ibu tunggal di Kota Bekasi, dan mendeskripsikan dampak dari stigma sosial yang diterima oleh para ibu tunggal yang melahirkan ketidakadilan gender yang termanifestasikan dalam lima bentuk yaitu marginalisasi, subordinasi, stereotipe, kekerasan, serta beban ganda. Penelitian dilakukan secara langsung dan secara online dimulai dari bulan Februari sampai Juni 2025. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi naratif. Peneliti melakukan observasi, wawancara mendalam, serta dokumentasi untuk memenuhi kebutuhan data penelitian. Objek penelitian ini yaitu stigma sosial pada perempuan sebagai ibu tunggal. Subjek penelitian ini berjumlah tujuh orang informan kunci yang merupakan ibu tunggal di perkotaan yang mengalami stigma sosial, lalu tiga orang informan triangulasi, terdiri dari 1 tokoh masyarakat, 1 ibu tunggal sebagai data komparasi, dan 1 tetangga salah satu ibu tunggal. Hasil temuan dari penelitian yaitu menunjukkan bahwa ibu tunggal memiliki peran dalam perekonomian keluarga, yaitu pada sektor formal dan informal. Stigma sosial dirasakan ibu tunggal karena status pernikahan yang mereka miliki. Stigma tersebut antara lain kurang dihargai sebagai kepala keluarga, stigma edukasi stigma pada pekerjaan yang diambil, stigma ibu tunggal sebagai perempuan ‘murahan’, stigma pendidikan yang diberikan ibu tunggal, stigma ancaman bagi rumah tangga orang lain, stigma gaya berpakaian ibu tunggal. Dampak stigma tersebut terhadap kondisi perempuan sebagai ibu tunggal yaitu memberikan dampak ekonomi, dampak psikologis, dan dampak sosial. Kata Kunci: Stigma Sosial, Ibu Tunggal, Ketidakadilan Gender ***** This research aims to describe the role of single mothers in meeting their families' economic needs and the poverty they experience; to explain the social stigma related to the presence of single mothers in Bekasi City; and to examine the impact of the stigma they face, which reflects gender injustice manifested in five forms: marginalization, subordination, stereotyping, violence, and a double burden. The research was conducted both in-person and online, starting from February to June 2025. This study used a qualitative approach with a narrative study method. The researcher conducted observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation to collect the data needed. The object of this research is the social stigma toward women as single mothers. The research subjects consisted of seven key informants—urban single mothers who have experienced social stigma—and three triangulation informants, including one community figure, one single mother as comparative data, and one neighbor of a single mother. The findings of this research show that single mothers play a role in supporting the family economy in both the formal and informal sectors. Social stigma is experienced by single mothers due to their marital status. The stigmas include: lack of recognition as heads of households, stigma in education, stigma in job choices, stigma of being labeled as "cheap women", stigma regarding their parenting, stigma of being a threat to other households, and stigma related to their style of dress. The impact of these stigmas on women as single mothers includes economic, psychological, and social consequences. Keywords: Social Stigma, Single Mothers, Gender Inequality
