Abstract

Tim Softball Jawa Barat memandang kehadiran pelatih asing sebagai faktor kunci dalam transformasi pola latihan, kedisiplinan, dan strategi permainan. Para atlet merasakan perbedaan yang signifikan dibandingkan dengan pengalaman sebelumnya bersama pelatih lokal. Pelatih asing dinilai membawa pendekatan yang lebih tegas, inovatif, dan terstruktur, sehingga mampu mendorong pemain keluar dari zona nyaman dan meningkatkan kohesivitas tim. Pandangan ini diperkuat oleh keberhasilan tim meraih medali emas pertama dalam 35 tahun pada PON XXI Aceh-Sumut 2024 yang menjadi bukti nyata efektivitas gaya kepemimpinan baru tersebut. Penelitian ini mengkaji bagaimana para anggota tim memaknai peran pelatih asing dalam proses pembentukan kekompakan tim, peningkatan rasa percaya antar pemain, serta pencapaian prestasi puncak. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi, dokumentasi, serta studi kepustakaan sebagai data sekunder. Lokasi penelitian berada di Kota Bandung, Surabaya, dan Meulaboh, dengan pelaksanaan penelitian dari Januari hingga Desember 2024, mencakup tahap persiapan hingga pasca-PON XXI Aceh-Sumut 2024. Subjek dalam penelitian ini sebanyak 6 orang anggota Tim Softball Jawa Barat, terdiri dari 3(tiga) anggota tim softball putri serta 3(tiga) anggota tim softball putri, serta 1 orang pelatih asing yang memimpin Tim Softball Putra Jawa Barat. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi langsung selama persiapan dan pertandingan, serta analisis dokumen terkait. Validitas data diperkuat dengan triangulasi sumber mewawancarai anggota PERBASASI Jawa Barat sebagai upaya untuk memperkuat keabsahan data dan memperoleh perspektif yang lebih objektif terkait kepemimpinan pelatih asing dan kohesivitas tim. Berdasarkan penelitian yang sudah dilakukan, menunjukan bahwa pelatih asing berperan penting dalam meningkatkan kepercayaan diri dan kebersamaan Tim Softball Jawa Barat. Melalui komunikasi yang efektif, pendekatan yang akrab dan metode latihan yang terbaharui, mampu membangun hubungan erat serta menciptakan lingkungan tim yang solid. Kepemimpinannya tidak hanya berfokus pada strategi, tetapi juga pada membangun kepercayaan dan dukungan antar pemain. Lalu penelitian ini juga menunjukan dinamika pembentukan kohesivitas Tim Softball Jawa Barat pada PON XXI Aceh-Sumut 2024, termasuk tahapan, strategi, serta tantangan yang dihadapi. Kohesivitas yang kuat berperan penting dalam menentukan strategi dan meningkatkan kerja sama tim, yang berdampak pada performa keseluruhan. Kata Kunci : Psikologi Sosial, Kohesivitas Tim, Softball ***** The West Java Softball Team views the presence of a foreign coach as a key factor in transforming training patterns, discipline, and game strategy. Athletes experienced significant differences compared to their previous experiences with local coaches. The foreign coach was perceived as bringing a more assertive, innovative, and structured approach, which successfully pushed players out of their comfort zones and enhanced team cohesiveness. This perception is reinforced by the team’s achievement of winning their first gold medal in 35 years at PON XXI Aceh–North Sumatra 2024, serving as tangible proof of the effectiveness of this new leadership style. This study examines how team members interpret the role of the foreign coach in the process of building team unity, enhancing mutual trust among players, and achieving peak performance. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, observations, documentation, and literature review as secondary data. The research was conducted in Bandung, Surabaya, and Meulaboh from January to December 2024, covering the preparation phase to the post-PON XXI Aceh–North Sumatra 2024 period. The study involved six members of the West Java Softball Team, consisting of three women’s softball team members and three women’s softball team members, as well as one foreign coach who led the West Java men’s softball team. Data were gathered through direct observation during preparation and competition, as well as document analysis. Data validity was strengthened through source triangulation by interviewing members of the West Java PERBASASI (Indonesian Softball and Baseball Federation) to ensure credibility and obtain a more objective perspective regarding the foreign coach’s leadership and team cohesiveness. The findings indicate that the foreign coach played a crucial role in enhancing the confidence and solidarity of the West Java Softball Team. Through effective communication, an approachable manner, and updated training methods, the coach was able to foster close relationships and create a strong team environment. His leadership focused not only on strategy but also on building trust and mutual support among players. Furthermore, the study also reveals the dynamics of forming the West Java Softball Team’s cohesiveness during PON XXI Aceh–North Sumatra 2024, including the stages, strategies, and challenges encountered. Strong cohesiveness was found to be essential in determining strategies and improving teamwork, which ultimately contributed to the team’s overall performance.
