Abstract

***** This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of resilience on psychological distress which includes depression, anxiety, and stress of firefighters in Jakarta. This research method is quantitative with sampling technique using purposive sampling method. The number of samples in this study were 216 active firefighter respondents who worked in the administrative areas of Central, West, East, South and North Jakarta. This study uses the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) instrument by Lovibond and Lovibond (1995) to measure psychological distress and the Resilience Scale by Wagnild and Young (1993) to measure resilience which has been adapted into Indonesian. Data analysis techniques used in this study, namely simple linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that resilience has a negative and significant effect on psychological distress which includes the dimensions of depression, anxiety, and stress. With an overall contribution to psychological distress is 6.5%, partially to depression by 4.3%, anxiety by 6.7%, and stress by 4.5% in firefighters in Jakarta. This means that the higher the level of resilience, the psychological distress which includes depression, anxiety, and stress will decrease.
