Abstract

***** This study aims to provide an overview of the subjective well-being among teachers at a public special needs school in Jakarta, as one of the educational institutions for students with special needs. This study was conducted qualitatively, using a case study approach. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews and passive participant observations. This study involved two teachers who teach at a public special needs school in Jakarta as research participants. The results of the study showed that the subjective well-being of special needs teachers can be categorized as good, as indicated by life satisfaction, the predominance of positive feelings, and minimal negative emotions that have been felt. Subjective well-being among special needs teachers is influenced by two components, the affective components that consist positive and negative affects, and the cognitive components which include life satisfaction and domain satisfaction aspects. Despite facing teaching challenges each day, both special needs teachers were able to reflect on themselves to minimize the negative emotions that they have felt during teaching. Therefore, subjective well-being plays an important role in helping the teachers face the teaching challenges and reduce the negative emotions that they feel while carrying out their duty as special needs teachers.
