Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis representasi dari lima tahap kesedihan yang dialami oleh karakter utama, yaitu Riley dalam film Inside Out. Riley digambarkan sebagai seorang anak yang mengalami tekanan emosional akibat perubahan besar yang terjadi dalam hidupnya, yaitu kepindahan ke kota baru, sehingga memicu gejolak emosional di dalam dirinya. Fokus utama penelitian ini adalah bagaimana film tersebut menggambarkan tahapan kesedihan dan bagaimana tahapan tersebut berdampak pada perkembangan psikologis Riley. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengatasi permasalahan gangguan mental dan depresi pada anak yang terjadi di dunia. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis teks deskriptif interpretatif untuk menganalisis narasi dan visual dalam film yang merepresentasikan tahapan kesedihan berdasarkan teori Five Stages of Grief dari Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, yaitu denial, anger, bargaining, depression, dan acceptance. Data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis secara mendalam melalui observasi terhadap narasi film yang didasarkan pada kerangka teori lima tahap kesedihan. Selain itu, elemen visual yang dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan teori animasi dari buku Boggs dan juga Wells. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelima tahap tersebut direpresentasikan secara bertahap melalui konflik dan kolaborasi dari kelima emosi utama Riley yaitu Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, dan Disgust seiring dengan perubahan yang terjadi dalam hidupnya. Visualisasi animasi yang mendukung, seperti pemilihan warna dan atmosfer emosional dari setiap karakter memperkuat penyampaian pesan bahwa kesedihan adalah bagian alami dari perkembangan psikologis anak, terutama ketika dalam kesedihan. Penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa film Inside Out tidak hanya menyampaikan pesan bahwa kesedihan merupakan bagian alami dari pertumbuhan emosional, tetapi juga menunjukkan bahwa pengakuan terhadap emosi kesedihan menjadi kunci untuk mencapai keseimbangan emosional. Penelitian ini dapat menjadi sumber inspirasi untuk pencipta karya animasi dalam berkarya dengan menerapkan kestabilan emosional bagi anak-anak, maupun orang dewasa. ***** This study aims to analyze the representation of the five stages of grief experienced by the main character, Riley, in the movie Inside Out. Riley is illustrated as a child who is dealing with emotional stress due to significant changes in her life when she moves to a new city, which initiates emotional madness within her. The focus of this study is how the movie portrays the stages of grief and their effect on Riley's psychological development. This study was conducted to address the issue of mental disorders and depression in children around the world. Using a qualitative approach with an interpretative descriptive text analysis method to analyze the narrative and visuals in the movie that represent the stages of grief based on Elisabeth Kübler-Ross's five stages of grief theory: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. The collected data were analyzed in depth through observation of the movie's narrative based on the five stages of the grief theory framework. The visual elements were analyzed using animation book approaches from Boggs and Wells's theory. The results of the study show that the five stages are represented gradually through the conflict and collaboration of Riley's five main emotions: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, as changes occur in her life. Supporting animation visualizations, such as the choice of colors and the emotional atmosphere of each character, reinforce the message that grieving is a natural part of a child's psychological development, especially when they are experiencing sadness. This study concludes that the movie Inside Out not only conveys the message that sadness is a natural part of emotional growth but also demonstrates that acknowledging sadness is key to achieving emotional balance. This research can inspire animators in their work by providing emotional stability for both children and adults.
