Abstract

The background of this research is based on the low work readiness and participation of deaf students in the workforce, due to communication barriers, social stigma, and the lack of suitable learning guidance. The research employs a Design-Based Research (DBR) approach, involving an iterative process including needs assessment, module adaptation, expert validation, field implementation, and continuous reflection and revision. The three main themes adapted in the module are self-confidence, effective communication, and teamwork, all tailored to the visual and communication needs of deaf students. The results show that the adapted module has a positive impact on the development of students’ soft skills and facilitates teachers in delivering work readiness materials in an inclusive and applicable manner. These findings highlight the importance of structured, needs-based pedagogical support in vocational education for students with hearing impairments. This study is expected to serve as a reference for developing inclusive education policies and similar work readiness modules in other special education schools.
