Abstract

Media telah lama menggambarkan anak-anak sebagai pelajar moralitas yang lugu dan patuh. Namun, Matilda the Musical (2022) membingkai kembali pandangan ini dengan menggambarkan pemberontakan yang dilakukan oleh anak-anak. Film ini menggambarkan pemberontakan bukan sebagai aksi pembangkangan, tetapi sebagai reaksi terhadap perlakuan yang tidak adil. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki tindak tutur yang dilakukan oleh karakter anak-anak dalam menyampaikan perlawanan mereka sebagai karakter yang diberlakukan tidak adil oleh orang dewasa dalam film tersebut. Dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk mendeskripsikan dan menginterpretasikan fenomena yang ada, penelitian ini menganalisis ujaran-ujaran yang dilakukan. Analisis ini difokuskan pada transkrip dialog film untuk mendata ujaran-ujaran para karakter, khususnya ujaran-ujaran yang mengindikasikan pemberontakan, melalui lensa tindak tutur Yule (1996) dan klasifikasi tindak ilokusi Searle (1964). Penelitian ini juga menggunakan naskah drama yang merupakan sumber adaptasi filmnya untuk membantu memahami konteks situasi yang terjadi dalam cerita. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa anak-anak melakukan 55 ujaran yang mengindikasikan tuturan pemberontakan dengan tindak representatif sebagai tindak tutur yang paling dominan, yaitu sebesar 47,27%. Berdasarkan analisis melalui konsep Vygotsky tentang ZPD, MKO, dan Perangkat budaya, anak-anak terlihat membangun identitas kolektif di bawah kekuasaan figur otoritatif. Karakter Matilda mengambil peran sebagai orang yang lebih berpengetahuan (MKO) terhadap karakter anak lainnya, mempengaruhi kemampuan mereka dalam menggunakan tindak tutur representatif. Bahasa serta cerita ditemukan sebagai perangkat budaya yang membantu Matilda dan anak lainnya untuk bermediasi dengan lingkungan sosial, sekaligus sebagai metode pemecahan masalah. ***** Media has long portrayed children as innocent, obedient learners of morality. However, Matilda the Musical (2022) reframes this image by depicting rebellion performed by children. The movie portrayed rebellion not as an act of disobedience, but as a reaction to unjust treatment. This study aims to investigate the speech acts performed by the child characters in conveying their retaliation as characters who are treated unjustly by the adults in the movie, as well as to reveal the sociocultural factors that influenced the performance. By applying descriptive qualitative to describe and interpret the phenomena, this study analyses the utterances performed. The analysis focuses on the dialogue transcript of the movie for the utterances of the characters, specifically on utterances that indicate rebellion, through the lens of speech act by Yule (1996) and Searle’s (1964) classification of illocutionary act. This study also used the drama script of the same story the movie adapted from to help understand the context of situation that happened in the story. The findings reveal the children performed 55 utterances that indicate speech of rebellion, with the representative act as the most dominantly performed in 47,27%. Based on analysing through Vygotsky’s concept of ZPD, MKO, and Cultural tools, The children are seen to make a collective identity under the reign of authoritative figure. Matilda, who takes the role of more knowledgeable other to them, influences their use of representative speech act. Language and stories are the cultural tools that help Matilda and the other children mediates with their social environment, as well as a method of problem-solving.
