Abstract
This study examines the psychological dynamics of the main character, Lee Tang, in the Korean TV series A Killer Paradox (2024), focusing on the interplay between the id, ego, and superego in shaping his psychopathy and identity struggles. Through Freud’s psychoanalytic lens, the analysis shows Lee Tang’s impulsive and violent behavior is driven by the id, with a distorted ego rationalizing his actions, and a weakened superego failing to enforce moral restraint. The study links Hare’s concept of psychopathy and Erikson’s identity crisis framework. It reveals how unresolved trauma, social alienation, and family stress contribute to Lee Tang’s fragmented self and emotional instability. The series’ themes of identity transformation and moral ambiguity provide rich context to understand his complex psychological profile. Findings suggest Lee Tang is a secondary psychopath whose violence stems from emotional turmoil and moral confusion, rather than inherent cruelty. This highlights the complex relationship between psychological vulnerability, environmental influences, and ethical dilemmas in shaping his character.
