Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji variasi bahasa yang digunakan dalam pemberitaan di website Medcom.id. Kajian ini difokuskan pada dua aspek utama, yaitu tingkat keformalan dan fungsi bahasa dalam penyampaian informasi berita. Permasalahan yang diangkat dalam penelitian ini mencakup bagaimana bentuk variasi bahasa digunakan oleh media daring dalam berbagai bidang pemberitaan, serta bagaimana peran fungsi bahasa membentuk gaya penyajian berita yang sesuai dengan karakteristik pembaca. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik analisis isi. Data berupa 40 artikel berita yang diambil dari delapan bidang utama di Medcom.id, yakni pendidikan, teknologi, hiburan, properti, gaya hidup, otomotif, ekonomi, dan olahraga, masing-masing lima artikel. Analisis dilakukan menggunakan teori tingkat keformalan Martin Joos dan teori fungsi bahasa James Kinneavy. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya 406 kemunculan variasi bahasa. Ragam usaha merupakan bentuk yang paling dominan, terutama dalam bidang pendidikan, teknologi, properti, dan otomotif. Ragam santai banyak ditemukan di bidang hiburan, gaya hidup, dan olahraga, sedangkan ragam resmi muncul secara terbatas. Ragam intim hanya muncul satu kali dan ragam beku tidak ditemukan. Dari segi fungsi, fungsi informatif paling banyak digunakan, diikuti fungsi ekspresif, persuasif, hiburan, dan eksploratif dalam jumlah yang lebih kecil. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa Medcom.id menggunakan bahasa yang komunikatif dan adaptif terhadap konteks isi dan karakter pembaca. Kata kunci: variasi bahasa, tingkat keformalan, fungsi bahasa, media daring, sosiolinguistik. ***** This study aims to examine the language variation used in news reporting on the Medcom.id website. The focus of the study is directed at two main aspects: the level of formality and the function of language in conveying news information. The research problem involves identifying how language variation is utilized by online media across various news categories, and how language functions shape the style of news delivery to match the characteristics of digital readers. The method employed is descriptive qualitative with content analysis techniques. The data consists of 40 news articles taken from eight major sections of Medcom.id: education, technology, entertainment, property, lifestyle, automotive, economy, and sports, with five articles from each section. The analysis applies Martin Joos’ theory of formality levels and James Kinneavy’s theory of language functions. The results reveal a total of 406 occurrences of language variation. Consultative (work) variety appears as the most dominant, particularly in education, technology, property, and automotive news. Casual style is commonly found in entertainment, lifestyle, and sports articles, while formal variety appears more limited. The intimate variety appears only once, and the frozen variety does not appear at all. In terms of function, the informative function is the most frequently used, followed by expressive, persuasive, entertainment, and exploratory functions in smaller proportions. These findings indicate that Medcom.id uses communicative and adaptive language aligned with content context and audience characteristics.
