Abstract

Cinta sering kali diekspresikan melalui bahasa yang puitis dan emosional, terutama dalam musik. Blonde (2016) karya Frank Ocean menggambarkan cinta bukan melalui pernyataan langsung, tetapi melalui ungkapan metaforis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi metafora konseptual tentang cinta yang terdapat dalam lirik lagu terpilih dari Blonde serta menganalisis bagaimana metafora tersebut mengekspresikan pengalaman emosional. Dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk mendeskripsikan dan menginterpretasi metafora, penelitian ini menganalisis unsur verbal seperti baris dan frasa dalam delapan lagu terpilih. Analisis dilakukan berdasarkan Teori Metafora Konseptual (Lakoff & Johnson, 1980) dan didukung oleh linguistik kognitif dari Evans dan Green (2006). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat 74 ungkapan metaforis, dengan metafora ontologis sebagai jenis yang paling dominan dengan persentase sebesar 68,92%. Metafora-metafora tersebut menggambarkan cinta sebagai sebuah wadah, kepemilikan, rumah, atau entitas, yang menunjukkan bagaimana emosi abstrak diwujudkan secara konkret melalui pengalaman tubuh. Cinta juga dipersepsikan sebagai perjalanan, transaksi, atau mimpi, yang mencerminkan kompleksitas dari lirik Ocean. Melalui lensa metaforis ini, Blonde tidak hanya merefleksikan pengalaman romantis, tetapi juga proses kognitif dan emosional yang berkaitan dengan identitas dan hubungan antarmanusia. ***** Love is often expressed through poetic and emotional language, particularly in music. Frank Ocean’s Blonde (2016) presents love not through direct statements, but through layered metaphorical expressions. This study aims to investigate the conceptual metaphors of love found in selected song lyrics from Blonde and to analyse how these metaphors express emotional experiences. By applying a descriptive qualitative method to describe and interpret the metaphors, this study examines verbal elements such as lines and phrases from eight selected songs. The analysis focuses on the lyrics through the lens of Conceptual Metaphor Theory (Lakoff & Johnson, 1980), supported by cognitive linguistics from Evans and Green (2006). The findings reveal 74 metaphorical expressions, with ontological metaphors being the most frequently used and accounting for 68.92% of the analysed data. These metaphors portray love as a container, possession, home, or entity, showing how abstract emotions are made concrete through embodied experience. Love is also framed as a journey, transaction, or dream, revealing the complexity of Ocean’s lyrics. Through this metaphorical lens, Blonde reflects not only romantic experience but also the cognitive and emotional processes of identity and human connection.
