Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi bentuk dan motif gaya bahasa litotes dalam bahasa Jepang, khususnya pada tuturan tokoh-tokoh dalam anime, drama, dan film Jepang. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh peran penting bahasa sebagai alat komunikasi sekaligus cerminan budaya, khususnya dalam masyarakat Jepang yang menjunjung tinggi kesopanan sehingga dalam berkomunikasi sering kali menggunakan ungkapan yang lebih halus dan merendah. Litotes menjadi salah satu bentuk gaya bahasa yang mencerminkan nilai tersebut, namun maknanya sering kali tersirat dan bergantung pada konteks situasi. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengungkap bentuk dan motif litotes dalam bahasa Jepang melalui pendekatan pragmatik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa teknik simak bebas libat cakap dan teknik catat. Adapun teknik analisisnya berupa teknik pilah unsur penentu. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori bentuk litotes oleh Hollander (1938) dan teori motif litotes oleh Osmankadic (dalam Mokhlos & Mukheef, 2020). Berdasarkan hasil analisis, bentuk litotes yang dominan ditemukan adalah litotes dengan penyangkalan positif dan litotes tanpa negasi. Motif yang paling banyak digunakan adalah motif kesopanan, diikuti oleh motif kesan gaya, ironi, dan ketidakpastian. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa litotes tidak hanya memperkuat nilai kesopanan dalam komunikasi berbahasa Jepang, tetapi juga menjadi bagian penting dalam memperkaya ekspresi dan menjaga harmoni sosial. ***** This research aims to identify the forms and motives of the litotes style of language in Japanese, especially in the speech of characters in Japanese anime, dramas, and films. This research is motivated by the important role of language as a means of communication as well as a reflection of culture, especially in Japanese society which upholds politeness so that in communication it often uses more subtle and humble expressions. Litotes is a form of language style that reflects these values, but its meaning is often implied and depends on the context of the situation. Therefore, this research was conducted to uncover the forms and motives of litotes in Japanese through a pragmatic approach. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques including uninvolved conversation observation techniques and note-taking techniques. The analysis technique uses select determinant elements. The theories used in this research are the theory of the form of litotes by Hollander (1938) and the theory of the motive of litotes by Osmankadic (in Mokhlos & Mukheef, 2020). Based on the results of the analysis, the dominant form of litotes found to be denied positive and litotes without negation. The most widely used motive is the motive of politeness, followed by the motive of impression of style, irony, and uncertainty. This research shows that litotes not only reinforce the value of politeness in Japanese-language communication, but also play an important part in enriching expression and maintaining social harmony.
