Abstract
Kata kunci: Agensi Perempuan, The Monstrous-Feminine, Subjektivitas Nomaden, A Certain Hunger, Horor Feminis. ********** This study analyses the main character, Dorothy Daniels, in the novel A Certain Hunger (2020), focusing on how her female agency embodies the concept of layered monstrosity. As the sole narrator and central character, the entire analysis centres on Dorothy's actions, thoughts and narrative style. This research uses a descriptive-analytical method to interpret the transgressive actions and internal monologues of the protagonist. To dissect the monstrosity, this research uses two main theoretical frameworks from contemporary feminist studies: Barbara Creed's The Monstrous-Feminine to analyse the physical manifestations and monstrous actions, and Rosi Braidotti's Nomadic Subjectivity to analyse her radical internal consciousness. The results show that Dorothy's agency manifests in two interrelated forms of monstrosity. First, through the lens of Creed theory, her predatory and cannibalistic actions are analysed as embodiments of the Femme Castratrice and Archaic Mother archetypes. By reversing the role of the victim and literally consuming men, she radically challenges traditional expectations of passive, nurturing femininity. Secondly, through Braidotti's theory, Dorothy's “monstrous subjectivity” is understood as a manifestation of the nomadic subject. Her consciousness that rejects a single stable identity and her ability to create a personal ethical system that ‘transcends good and evil’ become the source of her psychological horror. This research concludes that Dorothy's monstrosity is not the result of trauma, but rather the ultimate expression of her limitless agency, which ultimately deconstructs the image of women in contemporary horror narratives. Keywords: Female Agency, The Monstrous-Feminine, Nomadic Subjectivity, A Certain Hunger, Feminist Horror.
