Abstract
***** Adolescence is a crucial phase for identity formation and future planning, where individuals face complex career development tasks, and career aspirations serve as primary motivators for realizing ambitions. While family influence is well-established, the specific role of sibling relationships remains underexplored. This quantitative study aimed to analyze the relationship between sibling relationships and career aspirations among 413 high school students, utilizing the Sibling Relationship Questionnaire (SRQ) for dimensions of Warmth, Conflict, Rivalry, and Relative Power, and the Korean Career Aspiration Scale-Revised (K-CASR) for Achievement, Leadership, and Educational Aspirations. Spearman's rho analysis revealed a positive and significant, albeit low, correlation (r=0.203,p<0.01) between sibling relationships and career aspirations. Overall, respondents' sibling relationship levels were categorized as "High", and Educational Aspiration consistently dominated across all groups. Sibling dynamic variations were observed: Warmth was predominant in same-sex sibling relationships, while Conflict was more prevalent in opposite-sex relationships; however, the strong emphasis on educational aspirations remained consistent across all groups regardless of the sibling dynamic. This finding indicates that, despite a low correlation, the dynamics within sibling relationships remain a significant component in shaping adolescents' career goals.
