Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada kebutuhan cinta dan rasa memiliki dalam piramida hierarki kebutuhan manusia. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kekurangan cinta dan rasa memiliki pada tokoh utama, Madeline, serta menyelidiki cara ia memenuhi kebutuhannya. Pendekatan utama yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan psikoanalisis. Data dianalisis secara kualitatif menggunakan teori hierarki kebutuhan manusia Abraham Harold Maslow. Berdasarkan analisis novel, penulis menemukan bahwa Madeline secara progresif berupaya memenuhi kebutuhan cinta dan rasa memilikinya. Sebelumnya, ia hanya menerima cinta dan kasih sayang dari ibunya, Pauline. Penulis menganalisis kebutuhan cinta dan rasa memiliki Madeline melalui empat bentuk hubungan: hubungan keluarga, persahabatan, hubungan romantis, serta komunitas dan kelompok sosial. Setelah menelaah keempat aspek cinta dan rasa memiliki ini, penulis menemukan bahwa pencariannya akan cinta rasa memiliki pada akhirnya menuntun Madeline untuk membangun kehidupan di mana keinginannya akan hubungan antarmanusia yang mendalam terpenuhi sepenuhnya. ***** This study focuses on the needs for love and belonging in the pyramid of the hierarchy of human needs. This study aims to find out the main characters, Madeline, lack of love and belonging and to investigate the way she fulfils her needs. The main approach that is used to conduct this study is the psychoanalysis approach. The data are analysed qualitatively using Abraham Harold Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs theory. Based on the novel’s analysis, the writer finds that Madeline progressively tries to fulfils her love and belonging needs. Previously, she received love and affection only from her mother, Pauline. The writer analyses Madeline’s love and belonging needs through three relationships, such as family relationship, friendships, and romantic relationships. After examining these four aspects of love and belonging, the writer found that her search for belonging ultimately leads Madeline to build a life in which her desire for deep human connection is fully fulfilled.
