Abstract

Kesadaran cetak merupakan aspek mendasar dalam perkembangan literasi awal anak, mencakup pemahaman mengenai fungsi dan aturan dasar tulisan. Meskipun intervensi sejak dini telah terbukti penting, masih terdapat kekurangan pemahaman tentang bagaimana praktik tertentu seperti book-sharing serta kondisi lingkungan berperan dalam membentuk kesadaran cetak anak usia dini. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kegiatan book-sharing dan lingkungan literasi terhadap kesadaran cetak anak usia 4–5 tahun. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan eksperimen dengan desain treatment by level 2x2 serta rancangan posttest-only control group design. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari anak-anak di dua lembaga PAUD di Kecamatan Karawang Barat yang dipilih menggunakan teknik stratified random sampling, berdasarkan kategori lingkungan literasi kaya dan kurang. Instrumen utama dalam penelitian ini berupa tes kesadaran cetak yang telah melalui proses validasi oleh para ahli. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan book-sharing memberikan pengaruh signifikan terhadap peningkatan kesadaran cetak anak, dan terdapat interaksi antara jenis kegiatan dan kondisi lingkungan literasi yang memperkuat dampak tersebut. Anak-anak yang mengikuti kegiatan book-sharing dalam lingkungan literasi kaya memperoleh skor kesadaran cetak yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelompok lainnya. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa kesadaran cetak anak dipengaruhi oleh pembelajaran yang interaktif dan lingkungan fisik yang mendukung. ***** Print awareness is a fundamental component of early literacy development, encompassing children's understanding of the functions and conventions of written language. While early interventions have proven to be essential, there remains a gap in understanding how specific practices—such as book-sharing—and environmental factors contribute to the development of print awareness in young children. This study aims to examine the influence of book-sharing activities and the literacy environment on the print awareness of children aged 4–5 years. An experimental method was employed using a 2x2 treatment by level design and a posttest-only control group design. The sample consisted of children from two early childhood education institutions in the Karawang Barat District, selected through stratified random sampling based on categories of rich and limited literacy environments. The primary research instrument was a print awareness test, which had been validated through expert judgment. The analysis revealed a significant effect of book-sharing activities on improving children's print awareness, along with an interaction effect between the type of activity and the literacy environment that further reinforced the outcomes. Children who participated in book-sharing activities within rich literacy environments demonstrated higher levels of print awareness compared to other groups. These findings indicate that children's print awareness is influenced by interactive learning and a supportive physical environment.
